Hi all,

I have a Tango stem that I've been rooting for the past 1-2 months. It came attached to a Tango fruit that I purchased for the purpose of rooting the stem. This is the last surviving stem and it was pushing out new growth last month but it got knocked off by one of my cats that liked the plastic tented over it. It's still alive with little sign of new growth but I'm okay with that because no roots were being produced when the first bud was pushing out. My cat actually did me and my Tango cutting a big favor! Today I finally noticed something new on the cutting that I hadn't seen before on my Meyer cuttings.

It's really hard to get a photo with my phone so it's hard to see what's going on. The space between the bud and leaf node scar looks like it's splitting. At first I thought it was getting infested by mealy bugs but under my loupe I can see the inner fibers of the stem itself from splitting open. Any idea of what it's trying to do?
