Flatten surface for tile

I poured some cement for a post(14" square, 48" high) last week and after i took the forms out this week, i noticed the post now has a slight bulge on one side. Before i start to wrap this post with some tile I want to make the surface even. Do you have any idea how i can flatten out that uneven surface? Do i have to use a stucco mix of some sort or maybe a thick layer of thin set mortar? Please advise.

Or clamp a couple of boards on opposing faces, and allow the edges of the two boards to overhang your bowed face a bit. The edges will act as screeds so you can flatten the face.

Consider a bonding agent on the surface before flattening, plus a medium bed mortar to flatten the face. If applied too thick, thinset can shrink/crack as it cures.

If grinding, you can use the board edge as grinding guides. Have the bowed out concrete stand proud of the edges of the boards. Grind off everything proud of the edges.
