Neon Fantasy

I found this Neon Fantasy with the darkest purple flowers I have ever seen. They are supposed to have little red fantasy flecks on the flowers, but this one is unique. It had suckers on it so I split this plant into 5.

Love the variegation and ruffled flower!

@Plantsman56, your pseudoname looks familiar. Are you related to the Plantsman57 I saw listed in AVM's Vacation Guide article by chance?

No, not me. My name here was cycadjungle and I got banned from posting on any garden web forum. A group from the Florida gardening forum wanted to come out and tour my place. I put out my website which had my contact information, and the next day I couldn't post any more and everyone thought I just dropped out of sight. I still can't post from my computer. A few years later I got rgus tablet with a new IP number and I got back on with this name 4 years ago. I was 56 then. I was helping a lot if people on rthe cycad and palm forum at that time. Lots of people missed out.

I think that that's before Houzz took over.

You might check with Houzz to see if they will restore your access from your computer ...

Yes ... I've never been really impressed by the ads for this variety, but I am impressed with that plant ...

This is one of the 5 splits I made from the original plant. The backs of the leaves are red. The color is great on these.

JUST saw this post about this violet. I have this variety and it is exactly like this. It is a mass of plants in a 4in pot,and the blooms are all this black purple!!! It is suppose to be a fantasy bloom, but I have never gotten I fantasy bloom from it. I was told it 'reverted' to one of its parents. Glad to know others have this 'problem' to,and have the same plant. I have this huge plant and tons of blooms. I should split it up, but I never have. I like it, but not like 7 of them. I rather have the fantasy blooms i was looking forward to.

It is suppose to have lots of red/lighter purplish streaks in it. But...never seen a sign of any red or other colors in the bloom:( I should post a picture of my big plant...these are twins!!

The explanation that the variety reverted to one of its parents - is a bunch of hooey.

Plants do not revert to the parents any more than we do. Can you imagine waking up one day suddenly looking just like your granpa? The one that had a bright red nose and a love of moonshine? (just kidding - I am sure your granpa was very respectable).

Puff fantasy is the least stable and this variety just doesn't repeat well, And when you buy a non-blooming plant or a pair of leaves... you have a good chance never seeing one single pink puff. I just looked at the google pics... and had trouble finding the one with fantasy... they all dark violet... they are gorgeously dark... but it is a sport.

The tendency to sucker.. is not really a good feature as well.

But - all and all - it is a very very pretty plant - and even it is not conforming - who cares - enjoy!

Well the reason I bought mine was for fantasy blooms. Purple with pink splashes. I got it on EBay. From a reputable grower. Getting 7 new ones tomorrow from him. Blooming or blooming sized all of them.

Most fantasy bloomers, there are a few spectacular Russian fantasy ones I have bids on that end Sat. night, and I am hoping to get even 1 of them! Just unreal colors!! But one is now over $36! Out of my reach now.

But this one is deep purple, and if I split it up, I would have 6-7 plants. Same with my 'Edge Of Darkness', lots of plants in it. Few flowers though. Rather have the blooms, than the plants, so I guess I NEED to split it up, maybe that will make it bloom more???

You got it right. If you split and root the suckers - and do not let them sucker again - you will get the best bloom count. And Edge of Darkness is a gorgeous one.

Again - it is not about how reputable the seller is - and how much $$$ you shelled out...the plants with the complex pattern, fantasy, edges, thumbprints... the more of things are mixed together - the more chances that not all starters will bloom true. Unless you buy the plant in bloom - you are takng chances. Yes - a good grower to some extent can reduce amount of sports... means - if the grower mistreats them badly - and he grows unngodly stunted plants - none of them will bloom true. More stress - more mutations. If this specific variety only gives 3 true bloomers out of 10 starters.. Amour Elite is doing it for me, Charlene Romantica is doing for me - same hybridizer - Arkhipov. If they bloom true - gorgeous plants. But - only 30% chance of getting it right.

OK - this is Charlene Romantica.. most of the babies lose fantasy, some lose central white spot.or edging.. and then - what's left? Single lavender star.. with a very moderate bloom count.

Looks like i will have to get all those BIG BIG plants, far from sucker size, off my 'Edge of Darkness' so i can get a lot more blooms from it! And my 'Neon Fantasy'. Wish I of knew of local people that had others to trade for these BIG plants. They are blooming sized 'suckers'. To get other violets.

But I dont belong at any violet groups, and these are a pity to pitch, but looks like the trash for like 10 plants. No $$ to ship them to anyone, or I would trade. Hell i can barely pay to live. Let alone shipping violets around the country.

And don't know anyone local in Ft.laud.

Neon Fantasy is not a sport. You should be able to find it for sale online.

There a starter plant up for bid on e-bay ... https://www.ebay.com/itm/164968251414?hash=item2668dfc016:g:~FoAAOSwzUxg9f81
