I feel as you do, Lilyfinch, and will always have this big guy. One of mine is too close to the path through the garden, so we have to carefully inch past him, trying not to catch clothing in his thorny canes, but I wouldn't think of moving him at this point. Would be easier to move the path. He's probably not for those who like the manicured look. He's pretty shrubby and cottagey looking. One cluster of blooms makes a whole bouquet. Yours is in the perfect setting.

I have it but do mind the thorns. If it dies, I won’t shed a tear. But you know how it goes, just b/c I’m not attached to it, it thrives.

Flowers I have been only taking out dead cane . That's my philosophy on all my roses . ( I just started with hybrid teas so I know that won't work there ). It has been growing so nicely . It is next to wollerton old hall so when they start to compete I'll prune it back out of the way a little. Don't you think the glowing orbs of wollerton will look beautiful with the tiny stars of darlows ? Well that's my plan anyway :)

I agree, Lilyfinch, Darlow makes a great companion to Wollerton. Must see pics when they start to intertwine. I love intertwining roses. I know that's not possible everywhere because of disease, but where it's not a problem it looks so story-book-like and romantic.

I can't stop thinking about Christian J. Shelia, please keep us informed about this rose. The only info available is from High Country Roses. It's quite a bit smaller than Darlow's E, which would make it a lot easier to work with. I'm interested to know if it is the color on HCR's website or more red.

I love that, Sheila! The blooms look bigger than Darlow's Enigma. I see it is loaded with buds. Great color to mix with pinks, lavenders and even yellows. It definitely has those slender, pointed leaves like DE. Being on the smaller side, it looks like it will be easy to tuck into little gaps in the garden. Thank you so much for posting the pic. I'm very interested to see how it performs for you. So, another rose goes on my list.
