bathroom flooring options

I am looking for advice on options for the bathroom floor. We are renovating the main and ensuite in a 60s house. The hallway and bedroom have original oak flooring.

My initial estimates from contractors talk of ceramic tiles even though in my discussions I said I dont like the tile floors as I find them cold. I have no interest in installing in floor heating.

As I am looking online I am concerned that linoleum/vinyl sheet isnt durable; that the seams of laminates are prone to damage. I asked about an epoxy finish but the contractor said you can only do that over concrete...

there are many options and yes some of them are tile Have u looked at the ceramic hard wood tiles I hear u say they are cold but they can be hard to tell from real hardwood and u could match your other floors I find a cool floor refreshing in summer but also remember you can still add bathroom area rugs..Now when it comes to vinyl it just isnt what are parents had There are WATERPROOF vinyltiles that u can grout There are also some wonderful WATERPROOF floating floors you could use as well. Now there are WATER RESITANT floors as well that can handle siting water for up to 30 hours As far as durability look for something that is home and commercial grade. Hope this helps an good luck!

You want rigid core vinyl plank if you want a budget material. Otherwise heated coils under a good quality porcelain tile is the best if you have the $.

Cork glue down tile. It is 100% cork. It is glued into place and then a finish is applied over top = water proof.

It will give you the warmth of in-floor heat, the comfort of carpet and the slip resistance of vinyl. In a small space the materials/installation/labour costs should be very close to the cost of porcelain tile.

Sorry but cork is not good around a toilet if it ever sweats.

Cork is fine. The cork FLOATING flooring is the problem...not the cork itself. Cork is 100% water proof. The FIBER BOARD in a floating floor is the problem. That's why the glue down tile (100% cork) is the answer. It has no more issues than glue down vinyl.

We used to specify glue down cork in the 80’s and 90’s and we stopped doing so because of the issues around a sweaty toilet. It would get almost moldy like. Toilets don’t sweat like they used to :) but it would still make me pause based on my personal history with it.

I've had sheet vinyl in rental house bathrooms with no problems.

There's a reason they are recommending ceramic tile - durable and water resistant and time-tested.

I don't know much about it, but there is Johnsonite rubber tile.

It is mostly used in commercial applications but they meet the co-effcient of friction requirements for bathrooms, so may be a possibility. I cannot see how the seams between tiles are made waterproof, or if they are so tight that this is not needed? There is no top coating of finish or sealant mentioned in the instructions for installation. Technical Maintenance Sheet

Your Tarkett dealer should be able to tell you more about it. If you have kept your house in 1960s mode, the marbelized tiles should fit right in. If you have gone more modern, even better! I like how they have three shades of each color, letting you make patterns or randomize patterns while keeping within your chosen color.
