The headboard is pretty and will add some interest to a small room. I like the paint color as well but the only way to know if it works is to try it in your room. You should paint it on a big white poster board leaving about 2" all around as a border. Move it around at different times of the day and night to see what undertones it picks up and if you like it enough, go ahead from there and paint. I would paint the closet doors the same color as the walls so they blend in. Find nightstands that are as tall as your bed and as large as will comfortably fit in the space. Try to find something with 3 drawers so you can use the drawers as storage in lieu of a dresser. There doesn't seem to be room at all for a dresser so the nightstands will give you more storage.

Once you find your paint color, get drapes to match. Hang them from just under the molding to just above the floor. Not more than 1/2" or so off the floor. The room will feel bigger when you keep as many things as possible in the same color.

Keep your bedding in the white family as well and add pillows, throws and artwork for color.

Lamps on your nightstands should be much larger. They should be close to the height of the headboard. I would keep the size on the smaller side though so they don't feel too crowded.

I love your inspiration room and it should be easy to achieve. Good luck with your project!

I agree with painting the closet doors, but I would also try adding an overlay to give them more interest. You probably don't have room for regular molding, but there are a couple of companies that sell overlays meant to add to ikea furniture and wardrobe doors.

Keep a tiny room simple. Otherwise it will look even tinier. Yes to the headboard. Lose the mirror. Replace the curtains with a shade and see if you can fit a dresser under the window.

I think you have it laid out the only way it can be laid out. You cannot turn the bed to the other wall, or you'll really emphasize the off-centered window. I don't see how you can get a dresser in the room ... perhaps you could mitigate this with a super nice closet organizer?

How about replacing the side tables with substantial side tables with drawers? That'd mitigate the lack of a dresser.

The previous owners built an amazing closet organizer and there's a lot of space, thankfully. I have my dresser, make-up table, and closet in the spare room. We'll change it around for staging but I LOVE having my own room to get ready in!

I've looked for shades in the past but to get them the width that I need is nearly impossible or is custom ($$$). One place suggested just having 2 shades side by side but I feel like that might look strange.

I would price out the custom and see if you can find one that fits your budget, especially if you only have the one window. You may find it is less expensive than you think and it will give the room a fresh, clean look. The room darkening shades can make your room like nighttime in the middle of the day also.

I like that shade in the photo that Groveraxle gave you. If you are handy, maybe you could make a shade like that yourself.

I think the bed is on the right wall for your circumstances. I like the colors you're looking at and think they're fine. Just don't overdo it with too many pillows. I think you'll be fine with curtains the same color as the wall. If you want to add some texture, a woven wood roman shade would be pretty along with the curtain panels.

Your rug size should be based on the size of the bed. A 6x9 might work. That would give you 24" on either side of the bed and about 12 to 18 inches out the end of the bed, depending on how far down you pull it.

I would also consider upgrading the fan by removing the light fixture completely or at least finding more modern shades for it.

Usually we say to start with bedding and decide paint from there, but if you're going with a white, you should be fine choosing bedding after the walls are painted. Are you going to be working with your existing quilt?

How much room is there between the bed and the window wall?

Right now there's about 40" on each side of the bed. Id like to find new bedding. I was thinking a light gray to go with the walls and the gray in the rug. Or maybe a cream.

Nmsuther, the shade I put in your room was just a google image of a cream roman shade I found. If you do an outside mount, you don't have to do a custom shade. Try Overstock and the big box stores.

JC Penney is a good place to try as well. Not sure how wide your window is but this is 39 X 64 and is $68.00 on sale.

I'd stick with cream for the bedding, depending on the wall color you end up with. You can add a bit of gray in pillows, along with some of the other colors in your inspiration picture.

Unfortunately there is no JC Penney here in Canada and not as many home decore stores (especially here on the East Coast- pickings are slim). I always have decor "inspirations" but never seem to pull them together successfully. I want to try to keep things comfy, cheerful, and airy.

Wow, thanks! I'm in Nova Scotia. Thankfully we got an Ikea about 6 months ago.

I measured the window width from the outside of the trim since we won't be able to do an inside mount. It's 61", which doesn't seem very common for shades. Any other suggestions on how to mount with a more common size?

For the window you could get a long blind and keep the bottom portion closed , add some long sheers on top and you will have a faux big window look.

For the closet leave it alone just add a couple handles to it and it will look like this .

61" is pretty wide and they can get expensive. You can go up to the closest size and they would be fine. There are tutorials on line for making them out of mini blinds and fabric if you're crafty at all. They don't look too difficult. Otherwise, panel curtains may just be your best bet.

@ Genevieve those doors look great but if I put the handles on, the doors wouldn't be able to slide properly since one slides on top of the other.

@katinparadise you definitely need to check out the Atlantic provinces. I've lived here all my life and hate seafood-gasp! I had thought about making them myself a few years back but it was still super expensive finding mini blinds that wide. That's why I settled on panels in the end. But I do really like the looks of the shades in the picture up top.

Others have given you wonderful ideas. I'll just comment on the window. I have wide windows in my rental and installed two blinds in each window. For example, if the window is 61" wide, install two 30" wide blinds. There should be enough overlap of the blinds and window edges for coverage, plus it's easier to open/close a narrower blind than a big ole wide one. I found very inexpensive blinds at the local big box hardware store that are cordless and they look and work great and have held up in a vacation rental environment for the past couple of years without issue. I think I paid $10/blind, so $20 for each window. I get compliments all of the time on the blinds.

Here are some bedroom ideas to help you with your dilemma. The headboard is a good idea, but you might consider painting your bedroom a brighter color. Also try a nice piece of art over your bed, and some bigger lamps on the night stands. Adding a pop of color to the bed will help as well.

I bought a headboard and I've purchased some bedding and pillows (still debating those- nothing is ironed or pretty yet) and I'm looking at getting some art for above the bed similar to the ones in my inspiration picture. Any ideas for paint colors? And would you paint the hideous sliding metal doors the same color? Also, what are your thoughts on the 61" wide window- panels, shades, or both?

Things are slowly coming along. I've purchased a headboard, new bedding, and I've found a couple of art pieces I like that are very similar in colors to the inspiration picture. I haven't been able to find a one piece roman shadebig enough but I have found a black out shade at Ikea that I would probably dress up with panels if need be. My last big decision now is paint color. Any thoughts? Here is the inspo pic (top) and the 2 art pieces I'm considering for above the bed. I know I need to keep it light since the room is so small but I don't want it to be too boring either. I dont even know where to start.

You're doing well so far. I'd opt for a soft white. Maybe something with a bit of a very, very, very light pink undertone. It's going to depend on the light in your room and the direction the room faces. What paint brands do you have available?

If you're going for an off-white, you could try BM Pale Oak. It has a very, very slight hint of pink (only if you compare it to other off-whites), which I think would look nice with the elements you're using. Fun project!

Im open to any color so long as it keeps the room airy and open. Benjamin Moore is my favorite brand but I think I have access to most of the major brands. Definitely going to grab a sample of the Pale Oak!

You might grab a sample of Indian White as well.

Misty Gray looks like a good choice as long as it doesn't go lilac in your room. Get a big poster board and paint two coats, leaving about a 2" border. Then move the sample around all the walls at several times of day to see if it works.

The prints look great! I think the lamp could work if you adjust the arm of it so it sits a bit higher and straighter. That will make it appear taller.

I hope you don't mind me saying, but your curtain color feels off to me. Your other grays are cool and they feel taupe or mushroom-much warmer. If it's possible to change them out-I would switch to a clean white.

Sadly the arm if the lamp won't move up anymore. That was my thought too.

The curtains definitely aren't staying! As soon as paint goes up on the wall new treatments will be going up. I might have to do a roll down shade with panels or black out curtains (my husband needs the blackout option). Im thinking the curtains might be easiest right now with the portable air conditioner in for the summer.

Too bad about the lamp. I don't know if this is tall enough at 22" but I love this lamp from Target.
