Oven wall stack too high?

Looking for opinions on our oven stack.

The bottom oven starts ~23” off the floor making our top steam oven stop at ~68”. That’s too high, right? It’s a Wolf combi steam oven and the door pulls down almost 15”.

I’m 5’4” and this seems a bit dangerous to me.

Thoughts?

This height seems much safer, top oven opens at close to counter height. A tv above ovens is not going to work! Yikes.

Bad design all the way around. It’s the proverbial 20 lbs in a 5 lb sack. Find a way to put the ovens side by side, not one over the other. Get rid of the TV over any cooking appliance. It needs to go elsewhere.

Dang it guys/gals! I absolutely see everyone’s point but my kitchen layout has already been through the ringer on here many months ago and no one brought up the issues previously. This is a remodel so I have to work with what I’ve got and I need to order cabinets this week.

My wall ovens in previous kitchens have always been stacked so that doesn’t bother me. What bothers me is the height of the top oven. I think losing the 5” drawer is the best solution.

Thank you everyone for your expertise and input

Perhaps I should just get one of these flipdown TVs. I’m not planning on watching Netflix on it just the morning/evening news while I’m cooking.

The top oven will still be usable as drawn -- but with reservations. Reaching over a big pull-down oven door is going to be a hassle.

What do you think will be your main oven?

Going by the consensus in this forum, most people discover that their steam oven is the go-to oven for most purposes, and the "regular" oven is only used a few times a year. In that case, it would make sense to make the steam oven more accessible.

Check with the manufacturer of your ovens if they allow stacking in arbitrary order. Some do, some don't. And some seem confused depending on who you talk to (looking at you, Miele).

If, hypothetically, you put the smaller steam oven to the bottom, the bottom edge of the top oven would be lower than in your current configuration, because the steam oven is just not as high as the electric oven.

That would make it slightly easier to access the top oven. And if that's your secondary oven anyway, then maybe those few times a year, you could use a stepping stool? Ideally, you would get the top oven with a side-swinging or French door. That also would make it much more accessible.

Bluestar makes an electric oven with French doors, and you sometimes see pictures in this forum of how pretty it looks.

And as others have said, get rid of the cabinet mounted TV. Either mount it under-cabinet, or have it on a swing arm and mount it to a wall or ceiling.

i have 2 narrow drawers under my wall oven, and then the microwave with drop down door oven the oven, (so there is no bottom rack raising the item in the upper oven). i'm 5'2, your upper oven would be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too high for me.

Ditch that little drawer in the illustration and drop the ovens accordingly. After that, consider an oven with a swing door rather than drop down. If the TV is in an open cabinet, I would think it would be fine. It's all about airflow.

Ditto on ditching the small drawer below. I am the same height as you and the top of my combi is 59" above the floor. I wouldn't want it any higher..... and mine has a side swing door.

The thing with combi steam ovens is that when you open the door you can get a blast of steam escaping. You don't have that issue with a regular oven. I would be afraid to put a TV above a combi.

    Yours is too high imo.

i am 5’6” and my cso is lower than yours. I had a Gagg combi at the same height as my Wolf will be in my new house and it was good/just right. With this Wolf having a pull down door instead of the Gagg side swing I even worry that mine might be a little too high....especially after Sherri’s post.

    hope this helps.

I would actually lose the bigger drawer at the bottom and just have the little one. How tall is the oven itself?

There are a lot of oven stacks like this in the area of Texas where we are looking for a home. I reject them out of hand. They are a safety issue and just plain awkward, and I am 5'10".

Losing the bigger 18” drawer is a good idea! The oven is about 27”

My wife is about 5'4". We visited the Subzero/Wolf showroom, and she found a setup she liked.

    So, we measured.

This is the current drawing for the West Wall. It won't make any sense since you can't see the whole kitchen (don't want to highjack the thread), but it's how we are going to have our ovens, fridge and TV. Measurements still tentative.

Awesome! Yes, we dropped the 5” drawer and the top of the cso is at 63”

    thanks everyone

I love the location that you found for the TV. That would otherwise be dead space. But you put it to good use. It wouldn't be great for actively watching TV, but it's perfect for background entertainment where you only occasionally want to glance at the screen
