Crocuses are Fall planted for Spring blooms. Basically just like your daffodils, but planted much more shallow. If you have some of that famous Georgia clay, plant a bit more shallow than recommended to counteract the heavy clay.

I think they look lovely in clumps and I believe you can plant a bit more tightly than suggested although you might find yourself dividing a few years earlier if you do.

A big difference for me is that daffodils are not bothered by the foragers in my yard, but my crocus are. If you have squirrels or mice, be aware crocus are delicious to them. I soak mine in DeerOff (or something similar) and coat with cayenne pepper before planting. I do the same with my tulips. Rabbits and deer also like the flowers and foliage. I spray various deterrents when I can find the foliage (most are in the lawn and blend in).

I hope I haven't scared you off! Crocus are cheap and even 500 won't break the bank. Give it a whirl and enjoy!

Thanks posierosie, Not sure if there's many places here that don't have that famous Ga red clay, throw in some rocks and stuff and then you have it.

No you haven't scared me off and in fact I have already ordered about 500 along with another 400 daffodils. Once I started figuring footage I see what I have ordered is not nearly enough. Oh well, I have plenty of time before fall gets here.

As for the critters, we have squirrels, chipmunks, mice and voles. I also have three cats that like all 4 of them also. My main problem here are the deer, when they get hungry they will eat about anything. I have had 25 at one time in my front yard.

Just one more comment. I see the dreaded word 'row ' in your OP. Crocus look awful in a formal arrangement imo, so even if the Liriope are in a line please don't do that with the Crocus. Large informal irregular shaped groups are the way to go. Same as daffodils.

floral, what I meant is that I have some liriope which circles a few of the trees in my front yard. I was planning on putting some of them between the tree's and the liriope. I understand what you are saying about planting them in rows and made that mistake with some of the daffodils that I planted but they were in a large group and I'm hoping in time they will fill in and look much better.

I do appreciate your advise and need all I can get. Without help from others, I for one would be lost about a lot of things.
