wantonamara I think I will always think of it as Stipa tenuissima. I have known it as that for too many years to change now.

The upright silver plant is Perovskia atriplicifolia. I think it was still in bud when I took that photo. It is in flower now.

I like the moniker Stipa better myself. Easier too. I am sprouting some Stipa ichu from Chili this year. AHH the mysterious Perovskia. The plant that everyone else can grow and I can't. I have killed it my allowed three times. I think that it just does not like my brand of alkalinity or something. I have grown it in Decomposed granite and compost on limestone, compost in leaf litter, and hauled in garden soil. . My mother and father met in Crete JUST after WWII

Daisy, I’m so glad that Marlorena directed my attention over here! What incredible beauty! Your perennials blend seamlessly with the roses. How is it that you manage to cram so many together, and they all look like they belong together, while mine look like a wild hodgepodge of plants thrown together? I need to study your photos and take notes! Also, are your alstroemerias in full sun? Mine seem to be suffering in full sun, and not blooming enough in morning sun only. Perhaps my problem is that the full sun alstroemerias are in large clay pots. They may be overcrowded and not getting enough water. Yours are spectacular! Camp, I don't think so. That is more prostrate than what Daisy is growing, and the foliage is much more open Lotus b is darn frilly. I have killed it twice with heat and humidity. Texas killed it.

absolutely beautiful, how many years have you been working on it?

Thank-you all. wantonamara, the red and yellow flower is Lobelia laxiflora. It is extremely drought tolerant. I have not watered it, except during a heat wave, since it became established. Apparently, it continues flowering all summer when regularly watered. I do have Lotus bertholotii as well, but it is hard to spot in these photos. I do think that Lotus bertholotii has a shorter life span than I expected. I do have to take cuttings every few years.

Lisa my Alstromerias are all in full sun. They don't seem to mind. Some varieties flower more than others, but I think that that is the variety, rather than the position. The Russian sage, Perovskia, does self seed, but not enough to be a nuisance.

Kristine, The rose in photo no. 5 is Pat Austin. No. 8 is Augusta Luise, new to me this year and no. 17 is Munstead Wood with a little bit of Clair Matin showing behind. I had planted Munstead Wood in the garden, but it grew backwards. So, last winter, I put it in a pot and it seems a lot happier.

Spedigrees, All I do in the summer and autumn, is watering, dead heading and clearing spent annuals. It is too hot to do anything else, except go down to the beach for a swim. I do a bit more in the winter, pruning, cutting back, moving plants and so on.

Modestgoddess, We started building the pond, walls, arbours etc, in 2009. I already had some plants in pots waiting to be planted. Some of them I bought with me from my old garden in England.

Campanula, I think it is time that you treated yourself to a new computer and a camera, so that we can see lots and lots of photos from your garden, allotment and wood. Please.

Daisy, I killed that plant when I first came out on the land that I am now on. It was probably too alkaline in its raw form and I had not amended it sufficiently. Watering it consistently through its first summer might have helped too. I see that you have the Lobelia latiflora var anguvstifolia. There seems to be a couple of varieties available out there.

Geeze, I should have guessed that that was the beautiful Augusta Louise what a fabulous rose.
