Unfortunately, the salal and kinnikinnick will not play well with the phlox. They are both larger and more aggressive spreaders and will rapidly overwhelm the phlox (which is more of a clumper than a real spreader). I generally do not suggest mixing GC plantings for this reason - one groundcover will almost always tend to be more aggressive than another, so they seldom mix well.

If you want to add some color to the area where the larger GC's are established, then pick something with a woody base that will eventually develop some size - heaths or heathers or something like candytuft (Iberis sempervirens). These will need a fair amount of sun to thrive, however. And you may need to keep the existing groundcovers in check while these are establishing. If more shade, I'd just leave the native GCs to do their thing.

Thanks! I'll just let the natives do their thing. I think I need to buy more Salal because I'm impatient. :) I'll save the Creeping Phlox for under/around some shrubs I have in the front yard in full sun. I'm hoping that the shrubs will eventually fill in and then, if the creeping phlox is crushed out, I'll be OK. I just need something for a few years as things grow and mature.
