Are you talking about true Geraniums or Pelargoniums, Schlomo? If it's Pelargoniums 1 should be a non issue. I've never come across a too tall or floppy Pelargonium. The only way that would happen would be if they had too little light or were overfertilised. In which case they wouldn't flower well.

I'm a TOTAL amateur, just getting into gardening. So...I really don't know the difference between the two.

Schlomo, I assume you are referring to pelargoniums or zonal or windowbox geraniums. They have a much longer and showier bloom season than do hardy geraniums (cranesbills). And are far are commonly used for seasonal container plantings. They produce large, rounded flowerheads in white, pink, coral, orange and various shades of red and are very easy to grow. They do like a lot of sun but will grow and flower with a little shade as well.

There are other types of pelargoniums - fancy or scented leaf, ivy and Martha Washington/regal geraniums - but they do not produce the large colorful flowerheads (much smaller flowers!!) or have a weeping, cascading habit.

Zonal geraniums are sold at just about any place that sells plants at this time of year - Home Depot and other home improvement stores, grocery stores and every retail nursery or garden center - so a decent selection will not be hard to find. And they tend to be very inexpensive as well. I would never bother with mail order for these plants unless you are a collector looking for something rare and unique :-)

Zonal geraniums.

I received my plants from Geraniaceae. They arrived in good condition are a good size. Chocolate Twist was the smallest, but had well developed roots.

Everyday, easy to find everywhere Zonal Geraniums will always give a great show,

all season long, if: you deadhead the blooms, feed every 2-3 weeks with a

mild fertilizer (Miracle gro works great for them), keep them watered, but they

don't like sitting with wet feet.

I have several pots with

them every year (because my Mom always did..and I smile when I look at

them). Red is my very favorite, but lots of new colors out there....pink, white,

stripe two-tone, etc. We have had a wet/cold Spring, so things are a bit late,

but right now my geraniums are fabulous and covered with new buds and

flowers popping. ;)
