Looks like my Red Dragon when I first got it. Mine is now 5 years old and has finally put on some bulk.

Thank you, Annette. I took a quick peek at RD on the HL and it isn't quite the same. Mine has a slightly darker red, more towards maroon and the colouration on mine is denser. Also, RD doesn't appear to have glaucous backs. Thanks again for trying!

No problem. RD has been a mystery to me. It looks totally different now 5 years in. But it could be because mine took a beating and had to be resuscitated from near death lol.

Thank you Debbie. As said in the original posting, these were sitting right next to 'Red October' and the difference between the two is as plain as the nose on your face when you see them side-by-side like that. There's a very noticeable difference in how glaucous the back of the leaf is and on 'Red October' the red on the petioles goes all the way to where the leaf starts and into the leaf whereas on mine the red doesn't go near that far on the inside of the petiole.

Red Dog? This one is a division from a mature plant I got in 2016, pictures from 2017...

Thank you Karin. I looked at RD as a possibility but the backs on RD are much more glaucous than mine and the red on mine has far less of a stippling pattern to it, it's more of a solid colour.

Could it be a tissue culture issue? Some aren't the same as parent.

The Razor's Edge. Mine has not unfurled but here are some photo's I took last year for a discussion about look-a-likes.

Thanks Beverly. 'The Razor's Edge' would appear to have much brighter red, judging by the pictures in the HL, mine are almost maroon.

Maybe Kempen Red Twist? Here is a picture of the stems...

KRT is a candidate, but I don't think I've seen any "Kempen" varieties for sale here in Canada.

Pieter, it's kinda early :-) I love to be in the garden when the light comes in, it's very special and I can only enjoy it in my holidays... That Kempen has been in TC and you are lucky if you got one, it is a very nice hosta :-)

I'm thinking The Razor's Edge also. Mine isn't as red as shown in HL. I'll try to get pics tomorrow.
