Wow. Fabulous Florentina. No blooms on mine yet but tons of blooms

I adore that colour. Mine planted out in March has quite a few buds and has even sent out a new basal. I'll definitely post pics when they pop! I have another I'm going to plant on the same wall and am thinking of putting something else between the two. Your combo is very intriguing; I like it. : )

Mine didn’t bloom much the first year, but grew lots. :-)

Yes. I didn't see a single bloom myself last year but I think it's going to make up for lost time! It seems to be a general habit with the Kordes roses.

Mine also didn't bloom until the second year, then it had two flushes. I'm hoping for even more its third year.

Our Florentina has a bloom that is almost open. The color is amazing.

We purchased it spring last year from Heirloom. It was planted in a large whiskey barrel, but we moved it to this raised bed by the fence earlier this spring.

Shannon it is going to look great on that fence!

Gorgeous. I have three. One I walked back pretty hard early spring. Two I have growing in half whiskey barrel sized planters. These two are huge. Sprawling way over the 7 ft obelisks I put them on. They are robust and very healthy but no blooms. :(

    Thank you Cori Ann. :-)

I love the combo of colors in your pictures. So pretty! And very striking showing both off so well.

This raised bed has a Little Gem Magnolia in the middle. I thought the red Florentina would be pretty next to the white Magnolia flowers and shiney dark green leaves.

This is a side part to our fenced back yard. We bought an arch to go there also. I hope to train the Florentina on the fence and the arch, and maybe eventually nestle a bench under the arch.

Unfortunately the arch is all janky and crooked at the moment. Al ran into solid slate/shale about 6”-8” down on one side. Grrrr. He had to stop to rethink how ‘we’ are going to get through the rock. Andddd that was 3 weeks ago and ‘we’ haven’t gotten back to it yet. LOLOLOLOL ;-)

Ok I spent the majority of today tidying up the crazy climbers on the fence with Florentina. Now she looks much better. Like I mentioned before, I have Florentina here with Bloomfield Courage, but I also have Seven Sisters wrapping around from WAYYYY far away. Seven Sisters grows seven times faster than many other roses! It’s all tidy now.

The sun is very strong here lately. I hope the photos came out ok.

from the other side of the fence...

    see it way down there....

Just beautiful. Is your 7 Sisters a once bloomer?

    So far it’s a no-bloomer. :-)

Yeah it’s supposed to be a once bloomer. It’s been confirmed that I actually have the real Seven Sisters with the puffy leaves and little growths where the leaves meet the cane. I got it from the Sac Cemetary Rose Sale last year. It has grown sooooooooo much. No blooms this year. Maybe next year.

    Wow just Fabulous!

You are making me want to add all these reds to my garden. I love the combination of the smaller more simple Rose with Florentine’s more exuberant luxurious look. Wow please keep sharing :)

It is a difficult color to capture, but your pictures do it justice especially the first two. It's such a deep pure red. Mine is finally developing some buds. I can't wait to see it bloom.

Beautiful, and I don’t normally care for red. I actually purchased a tiny Florentina last Fall. I was seduced by all your lovely pictures, plus my dad said, “Why don’t you grow any red roses?” I haven’t gotten up the nerve to plant mine in the ground yet. Your pictures are giving me courage! Thanks all. It’s a very eye catching, vibrant, true red. It’s pretty fantastic!

Redroses I have metal grid trellises, then also wires attached to the fence with eye hooks, creating something a bit like espalier wires horizontally all across the fence. I tie the main canes to those and also any wildly long, stray laterals as they grow. :-)

Wow, well done, you garden is amazing.

Great job capturing that color. Isn't that the prettiest red? I love Flotentina. Mine isnt quite as big as yours but it's loaded with buds so it has potential.

Cori Ann: That is the most beautiful pure red rose I have ever seen. I have very very few reds in my garden, but I WANT this one. They look so luxurious and romantic.

Stunning photos! My Florentina bloomed last year with just a few blooms. This year though I had to cut her way back as all of her canes died down to the ground due to our crazy Winter. She's sprouting new growth now from the base and is looking very healthy. She's vigorous. It's a great rose and your photos show off her beauty!

I am watching this one to see how it reblooms. This is exactly the rose I want for over a courtyard entrance but it needs to have a quick rebloom.

It's so Beauty and the Beast!

Cant stop thinking about Florentina lol, its 80F-90F where I live it is too late to plant a bare root now?

    I wouldn’t do it!

Well, Cori Ann, you've managed to get my attention with this beauty. Florentina is the first pure red I've really liked. You really can't take your eyes off this rose because Florentina won't let you. And yours is such a gorgeous example that Kordes should pay you for the positive publicity. I wonder if they've noticed an uptick in Flo sales since you've posted these pics! Diane

I see it’s been over a year since anyone has commented on this thread. Does anyone have updates? My florentina blooms so heavily in spring but then has only a tiny rebloom in late September. She’s a beautiful rose, but definitely not a good rebloomer for me. She just grows and grows but that’s about it. Would love to hear if anyone else has the same experience.

How long have you had yours, Raoul? Mine has given several "flushes", but they have been small due to too much shade. This rose needs to really build up its roots before giving multiple blooms from my observations here on this forum and talking to some who've had it for a long time. I'm anxious for next year after I remove and relocate the shading trees and cut down the dead oak. I think if I counted bloom cycles this would be her third or fourth. How have your temps been this summer?

Shes been in the ground 2 years now, and she’s massive. She’s about 8 feet tall and very bushy. She’s on her second flush this year. Gets full sun and frequent water and Fertilize. I live in Texas so summer temperatures are in the 90s most of the summer, and above 100 for about a month of that.

Well, most climbers are just creeping in their second year, so I'd give her time to produce more flushes. You'll probably get a third one in if the weather holds up. Patience.

Thats what I read, and I’m hoping that’s the case. I love the bloom shape and color, Im Just hoping for more blooms! Guess we’ll see what happens this next year. Thanks for your reply!

I think most of my climbers that I planted earlier this spring has too much shade (only 3 hrs of direct sun).. Florentina, Lavender crush, Plum perfect only has leaves in that filtered light corner. May need to move them or trim off the branches of overgrown crepe myrtle tree to allow more light. I love the red bloom when I got it from Lowes.

Tina, Florentina does love the Sun. Mine is in less than perfect son and fall it gives a great flush it does not repeat well. This is a rose that may take a while to get going actually.

I had a Florentina in dappled sun and it never bloomed. Now I have one in full sun and it is blooming great. I do think it needs more sun. If you want a red climber that might do well in that location consider Tess de Uberville. Mine bloomed great in quite a bit of shade.

Florentina two years in ground, grafted from Palatine.

Does anyone know how this rose will respond with an hour or two less than the recommended full 6? 😬🤞 Thank you!! 🌹

Yes. Mine is blooming in a lot of shadel of course it will do better in more sun.

My first time getting florentina to flower since planted last summer! Love the ruffle petals, vibrant color (even in rain) and cluster of heavy blooms... so romantic! Thanks for the advice to be patient with this rose

Mary Heise, if you're in a Northern state (like I am, zone 7), you will need more sun hours for your climbers than someone growing the same roses in California or Texas--it's the latitude, not the cold hardiness zone. Of course, your growing season will be much shorter, too. Other factors are altitude and nearness to large bodies of water. Some climbers bloom their first year like Colette, for example (grafted).

Tina, your Florentina is gorgeous. I love this rose. Diane
