Put water under or top of your lighted plant self, so it warm the water a little bit?

Depending on the size of you collection...you can nuke your spring water for 10-15 sec.

Do not water in the morning - that's when the room is coolest - and the lights didn't have a chance to warm the bottles up yet.

Usually the damage is purely cosmetic, but who knows about them small babies.

Lets say - in the morning your room is 68F... it is not necessary the temperature of the water you want to swim in...

The water is still freezing when I water in the evening. I jave had a few plants with issues lately and think the issue is more over watering than the temp.

The lower leaves start with mushy brown spots then it takes over the whole leaves. Do you let your variegated plants dry out completely before watering again? Thinking I need to do that. I just got a plant of September Morn that completely collapsed and I tried cutting the crown and re rooting but it was almost rotted to the core center.

What is the temperature in the room? In the growing area? May be it is too cold at the night time, They have these battery operated thermometers that show the current temperature, lowest and highest temperature in the last 24 hours. I picked one in Walmart.

It seems that you feel chilled in your own house...And while you can wear sweatpants - plants cannot.

You should be watering in the morning!

They need water and nourishment in daylight when they are waking up.

At night, they need darkness to go to work synthesizing and digesting what they took in during the day in the form of light and fluids.

Get them back on the day shift.

Stacey -- Perhaps you can try putting the water jugs into a hot water bath in the kitchen sink or bathtub to warm them up before using.

If 68F is a lowest - it is good - if 68F is the highest - I will be wearing sweatpants. Supposedly 10 degrees between night and day is what doctor prescribed.

So maybe ease up on my watering hand... I am always so worried to under water that maybe I am smothering my variegated ones...

No - it is not true. Variegated plants do not need to be dry before watering.

They ALL do better on constant moisture - like wicking - if your soil is loose enough, wick is taking just enough water - it takes some adjustment. What Stamik is dealing with - you bottom water - you can easily make the soil soggy - may be temporarily - but with cool conditions - it can be detrimental. So in this case - too much is worse than not enough. Oldtimers didn't use wicks - but they used their index finger - if the first 1/2 inch of soil is dry - it is time to water. And with bottom watering - there is always a good practice -water - and in 15-20 minutes - pour the leftover water out of the saucers. Even if the top still fees dry - the moisture will gradually redistribute itself.

It is not that we are running around dispensing a precise amount of water into each separate pot...

I didn't say that. No AV should ever have to dry out.
