I think a light gray glass tile could look nice for the backsplash.

You can always do a white subway tile or a white or light gray glass. Either of those would be safe choices. I think it depends on your style - modern? Farmhouse?

Thank you for your help. I am going for more modern farmhouse then rustic. I wish we could wait to pick the backsplash but they want to put it before our vent hood because the backsplash will meet the trim. Here is another picture

Beautiful kitchen! Go with an off-white subway tile that matches your off-white cabinets (which, by the way, will probably be labeled "white" when you actually make the selection since it is hard to find a true white).

I would go with a white to match or a light gray. Glass might not be the best choice if you are going for a farmhouse feel. I would stick to ceramic. Maybe look at handmade for a rustic look. I'm in love with crackle & I think it would look great here.

(Shockingly, Home Depot sells a tile that looks almost identical to that photo just above my post. You'd have to check that it's the right shade of gray for your space and other finishes, but...)

I believe that Dal Tile Rittenhouse Square White 3 in. x 6 in. Modular Ceramic Wall Tile is an off-white, but you should definitely get a sample to ensure it is a close match to your Simply White cabinets. Good luck!

I did a light grey tile in my kitchen that I really liked. I tried to figure out which one it was, but the invoice didn't list the actual tile name, and it's been a few years. If you really want I can dig it out of my garage and look at the box of leftovers to see if it says, but here's a pic:

It was very inexpensive, and was from Mission Stone and Tile.

Of course, sometimes pictures don't do it justice, but if you see the 1st pic of the kitchen in construction and then the backsplash we added. It is not glossy but caught some light in this pic. It is a stacked slate like stone from Dal Tile called, I think, Volcano. It is blue grey and I get compliments on it from nearly everyone. Same granite as you and cabinets are not yellowy in real life. Good luck!

When you look at the above stone picture, keep in mind that it is 3 dimensional, with about 5 -6 finishes of "random" stone. Some are gloss, some matte, some chiseled, some slightly rough, etc. Makes it very rich & timeless.

Don't do gray! Gray is the equivalent of weaseling out in the design world. It's not trying. White subway would be awesome, or a nice blue or green glass for a statement.

trifecta I love your backsplash! I looked on Daltile's website but could not find your stone. Do you have any other info on the name that might help?

dana6 - I’ve got more info but you might need to look around a bit because the usual pictures don’t look like anything! I googled the correct name, “Lava Stone”, and you will see a lot of slate like flooring AND under ‘stone/marble mosaics’, you can find it. Mine was made by Ceramic Tileworks and distributed at the time by Daltile.

You can see they had a lot of types of the same stone, and weirdly, mine is the one on the bottom right, cultural brick, honed, and is a compressed pic. The individual stones have no room for grout between, are all 3/8” high, varying lengths and staggered. There are now other look-alike.

A closeup pic of the counter would help. What's the darkest tone there?

Please not more white!! Aside from whites being slightly yet vastly different from each other and without a kitchen designer, looking just 'off' very often, it is bland, has no depth, interest, focal point, just no.

Grey, you could. But be careful, not to go too light. I am not anti-grey, I think it's a brilliant colour a lot of times, but not always. It would be far better than white, but if you do grey, choose a darker, warm, deep one.

How about colour? Not everyone's go-to, particularly for a splash, but it could give your space some more interest.

Trifecta that is a beautiful backsplash! Thank you all for your advice, even offering to look in a garage for me:) I ended up getting a 3x12 basic white subway tile from Floor and Decor. I am going to go with a warm gray grout. I will post pictures:)

Hi Erica, know this is an old post, but could you post pics of your finished kitchen? We just chose river white and have white cabinets in our remodeled kitchen And am thinking white subway, but afraid will be too white. Will have Light gray walls. Thank you!
