RHODODENDRONS ~ TUTORIAL ADVICE SOUGHT ~ PRUNING ~ CARE ~ SECRET TIPS

last modified: 8 years ago

Hi to all on the Azalea & Rhododendron Forum

I am a new Lover of Rhododendrons and have recently acquired a small selection from a Nursery.

My Post here is to ask you the Forum for as much Sound advice as possible specifically in relation to the all important "PRUNING"

The Pictures below are of the Hybride Album Novum which is in a 5 Litre Pot

The Shrub has already flowered and it was absolutely loaded with Blossom.A small amount of the blossom still remains which I have left for you to see..

I would appreciate the Forum giving me some advice on Pruning ~ Repotting etc..

Should the stems Highlighted in front of the hand be cut down to the leaf clusters to encourage new growth ?..If so when would be the ideal time to do this...

I do want the Rhododendrons to stay Dense and produce a Rich & Full Bloom each year..Ideally Exhibition Quality..L.O.L

I recently seen a Rhododendron which although had a Delicious Lemon Coloured Bloom was very Stringy and lacked a fullness..Will a Mature Rhododendron of say 10 years which is stringy always be so or could it be rigorously Pruned

Do the Forum consider a Full and dense crown is preferable with these Lovely Shrubs

Can the Rhododendron Forum recommend some varieties which produce a longer lasting Bloom

I do want all my Rhododendrons to remain containerized

More Posts to follow over the coming Fortnight

Happy Gardening to all..
