Looks like that mysterious tissue damage from, who knows what... temp swings... abundance of moisture followed by hot direct sun? It doesn't hurt your hosta, just makes those leaves unsightly.

I agree with Steve; seems like it's windburned or sunburned or a little frostbitten.

frost damage in cold areas ....

if you bought it from inside a greenhouse .. and then took it out to a sunny yard.. sunburn ... due to lack of hardening off ...

and if out of the house.. transplanted ... and hit with wind while roots not pumping water.. then windburn.. aka desiccation ... it was losing more water sweating from the leaf.. than the roots were able to pump ... again within the realm of hardening off ...

look to the new growth ... and if its clean ... then its settled down.. and all should be fine ...
