It's been renamed quite a while now. Since 2006 in fact so the name is well past 'catching on'. It's a mouthful for sure but I'm happy to try and learn and remember it. As botany progresses, and we can compare the dna and molecular structure of plants, taxonomy has to keep up. Same as any science. Gardeners can still call it what they like but there's no point trying to unlearn new knowledge about plant relationships.

Is it actually 'catching on' though? I've never seen anyone on these boards refer to them by their new name, and whenever I go to nurseries/garden centers I still see the plants labeled as dicentra.

Well, I try to use the 'new' name, as do others. A quick search of this forum yielded plenty of Examples of people using Lamprocapnos. It's true sellers lag behind, but they often do, continuing to use older names for their wares.

Heck, when you regularly see tags on hostas labelled as Funkia I wouldn't pin my hopes on Lamprocapnos becoming commonplace any time soon.
