Fred's charts can be helpful to get height of nightstands and lamps, as well as lamp base style, right in relation to both the bed (mattress height for the table and overall height for lamp and table,) and the style (chunky lamps for chunky furniture, and skinny ones for skinny tables.)

Do you like how it looks? Does it do what it is meant to do? Yes?

Then why the worry about base widths etc? Surely that lamp isn't there just to look good, it has to do a job as well...

If the base width still worries you, I'd say that table is a bit too big for that sort of lamp. Now, replacing the table is probably impractical. So are you going to find a bigger lamp?

My point is: Seems like a trivial thing to worry about. As long as it meets the major concerns of yours, why change it?
