Unflattering Reveal

I've bragged about my successes here, and I've mentioned a flop or two. This is in between. It doesn't look the hottest, but it isn't my fault. I inadvertently dug up mistakes from previous contractors.

This is the hated about-to-be-replaced sink. Note how the top overhang lessens and the tip-out drawer top edge becomes more exposed from left to right. It's not an optical illusion.

Not only is the sink base cabinet wonky, the backsplash and bar countertop are off to the tune of 3/4" over 33". At least the rounded asymmetrical shape of the original sink threw off your eye. When you throw a perfectly square rectangle into the top, the ghosts of mistakes past come to haunt.

Of course my customer noticed this immediately and I explained that there was no choice. I can't install a rectangular sink into a parallelogram. She was so excited to have a new sink, she blew it off. Lucky me.

The faucet and RO dispenser break it up a bit and if she puts a soap dispenser on the left it will help.

The lesson here is, when remodeling, you don't always get exactly what you want and it isn't your contractor's fault. Anytime you dig into existing construction, your contractor is going to have to do cost effective work with the hand he is dealt.
