New home with Palms

Hi all!

We we move into a new home this week and I’ve got to start training my thumb to change colour from black to green.

There are two palm trees at the front of the house, one seems to be growing well, albeit a little scruffy (is it supposed to be this way?), and the other only has a few shoots coming out of the trunk. They apparently were both planted at the same time...should I give up on the second one?

I dont know know anyone who has palms or knows anything about them to ask! We live in Soutern British Columbia...so they aren’t common.

I appreciate any help!!

    They're trachycarpus fortunei. I don't know about growing and caring for these in a cold climate so i'll refrain from giving any advice. the only thing i could offer is that the palm looks like it may be growing out after having spear pull, which happens when (usually) cold weather damages the growth point in the trunk. palms may take several months to several years to recover if they survive.
