HELP, please with small peninsula.

I am doing a small condo remodel to include the basics: painting walls (gray) and cabinets (white), retiling and countertops, new appliances, etc., and I intend to add a peninsula. As designed, it is 4'6" x 3'2" with a 10" overhang for seating two - this is as large as I can go and am wondering if 4' is better (my contractor says either will work). The peninsula will extend out from the full wall on the right and will have a decorative side panel b/c the side-for-seating faces the living room. I need the counter space and also want to break up the bowling alley look.

My originally intended question was about lighting. My vision is impaired so I will need to keep the canned lights, but also want to add pendants. What diameter do you recommend for that size island? How many? I would prefer bright light for vision, and bright light also bothers me so perhaps a concealed bulb is better. There is a copper surround for fireplace in the LR so metal could be fun. I like light below but have lost track of where I saw it (the version with the chain).

I'd love to see your ideas.

Any suggestions about anything would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
