2018 blooms

Hey guys! Just wanted to share what's blooming this year. Right now I have Desert Sunrise, Cally Sally, Delightful, Thornton Lemon Drop, Elsie, and Celadine blooming. Several more coming up. I think as more begin to bloom I will just add them to this post as the year progresses, instead of starting a new post. I'd love for anyone to add theirs as well!

all the different colors this season from my California Sunset. Amazing what differences heat and cool weather make on the colors!

Agree on AG scent and big yellow blooms. The only yellows I plan to keep are AG, ETLD, and Celadine. AG seems brittle and unruly until the green growth greys up. My parent AG is in ugly shape due to storm damage but a bit of training should go a long way. A 30gal Royal Hawaiian was blown onto it during a strong storm at the cost of most of the AG's canopy. The RH was relatively undamaged.

Blykosh, nice CA Sunset. I have its cousin, Penang Peach.

Dupe, I like the combination of AG with those dark blue salvia (?) shrubs. Very nice landscaping.

Dave, that is interesting. Does it have very thin branches?

Michael, you might be able to get plants from Italy. There are several nurseries on Sicily with Plumeria including a Jungle Jacks nursery which are already in the EU realm. That may be the best approach.

Laura, I almost gave up looking for other Plumeria specimens...

Jungle Jack in the EU, this is the greatest news of the season...already checking out their website thank you for this info:)

Now, control myself I must...ordering Plumeria never been so easy.

Asking out of curiosity. With certainty I can say it is not a Pudica or West Indies Jasmine but I wouldn't venture a guess at what else it could be. Its a nice bloom and probably should be enjoyed just as that.

For reference here is a Pudica with their unique leaves, and unscented blooms.

A slightly deeper color with this bloom. Just a few left

    Nice Polynesian Sunset K!!

I has to chuckle when I say “‘quality versus quantity “ only because most of us had to learn this the hard way... it was reversed for me at first when I wanted everything, but now I can say that I lived it and can try and offer sound advise!! ;)

    A few blooming today ..

Thank you so much Laura for the Sun Island Nursery.

Now I'm really in trouble...I'm making my wish list for the Spring, to bring a bit of colour into my Plumerias. So happy to see that JJ in Sicily has several compact & fragrant specimens, it will look great on my terrace.

I'm bound by a promise I've made, to bring a new plant in only after I give another one away as a gift:)...

    Good morning...

Laura and Rox: Thanks for sharing your beautiful flower as always!

It is very true..Laura, beginning you want everything (quantity) - few years after (quality). :)

Divine and Elsie have been going at it all year... Finally something new to look at! Mardi gras. One pic on a hot sunny day. Then today after a few days of overcast.

Thanks Laura! I have been really impressed with Mardi Gras this year. It is in full sun and is one of the most vigorous growers for me this year. Was 2 tips and it appears both will be splitting 3 ways. Very large beautiful leaves too!

Chris, indeed..the color is incredibly laxation your mind..I love it!

Laura, I got this panang peach 2 yrs old from a well know nursery, but not seeing a bit peachy color...flowers are nice thouht!

    Thanks,

    Hi Dave!

Is this the first time blooming in your environment?? Where are you located again and what are your temps??

My first thought was that it might be an indoor bloom?? But if you have heat then you should be seeing some color change on A Penang Peach cultivar. Those petals have the hooked look at the end like a PP... But it is rather solid in its coloration.

I would give it time, but I would also contact the nursery with your concerns and pictures.

If this was blooming inside with artificial lights, I might understand. But if it’s outside and you have had good heat here in the middle / end of summer, I would expect to see some change in coloration.

Reach out to the seller/ nursery and I’m sure they will help you and or even correct the matter once they see your concerns!

    Hope this helps!!

    Beautiful Mardi Gras!!

    Hi Laura, Thank you!!

I am in OC near Disneyland, Westminster city.
    The heat/humidity here are up/down...
but I would say it's fair. The PP poted and sun bath aprox 3 hours a day at the location outdoor. The blooms this year are awesome..only color I'm concerns.
Yes, I'll ask the seller. Here's another foto angle. Thanks again Laura!

Plumeria's lover have a great weekend!

It looks like the location may be a bit too shady to produce the vibrant Penang bloom color. Either way it looks great and every year it will just get better.

Nice Chris. Did you get hammered with rain over the last couple of weeks? I am just now drying out.

Dave Escalante, I have no idea what specifically that plant would be. It certainly looks like a Plumeria cousin. The leaves look thick and leathery. Maybe an Adenium Cultivar?

Thanks, k! Yes we got a ton of rain, drying out now as well but it looks like its about to start rolling back in this weekend. I have been digging all of my plumeria up as we are listing our house on Friday and according to our realtor everything in the ground after listing must stay. I plan to make a post to show the process. It has been pretty crazy to say the least. The CS3 in the pic above was dug up about 45 minutes prior to pic and I rushed to work and left it in about 5 hrs of 90 degree full sun and it didn't flinch. I was pretty amazed. Plumeria are so forgiving.

I came home last night and finally open the Bali Whirl yesterday.
Took almost 2 month to bloom. this is third year plant. first year, grow about a foot but that winter it got black tip so i have to cut it off. and finally got inflo around end of August this year. This summer, weather is cool but still warm weather. some of my plumerias are shooting out inflos but i do not think it will bloom this year (too late).

Wet and abnormally cool has crushed any end of season displays I normally expect during Oct and early Nov. I am going around pulling off old inflos before they rot in place.

My jeannie moragne is pushing 4 Fall inflos that should all have time to bloom. One is only about a week away.

For some reason I can no longer post pics from my iPhone library on this forum. They show up very washed out in color and then never load.

Sucks. I have some cool pics to share.

Been away a while! We have in the process of selling our house so I have been a little busy. I had to dig all of my plumeria up before listing the house. Many of them were beginning to push inflos so it was a bit unfortunate. But they have all held on, though slowed down considerably and dropped a lot of buds. I kept them all in the garage while recovering so I have a few muted tone blooms to share.

Chris I hope the move goes well for you. I moved in 2016 and it was an experience to move my collection. I did it during dormancy and filled up a double axle trailer 2x and the truck bed. No wind resistance so nice and easy but time consuming.

Everything is put away here. Normally Thanksgiving weekend is my greenhouse date but I moved it up to Veteran's Day. All the late season rain really knocked the blooms back and then We had 4 nights below freezing already which was quite unexpected. There plenty of new inflos starting but I doubt they will amount to anything.

Hey K, Thanks! The move has been good, and it wasn't too far down the road. My collection isnt nearly as big as yours. I was able to fit them all in the back of my truck in one load. It was like putting a puzzle together trying to slip branches between other branches so that all the plants would fit. I have a pretty big crown of thorns collection to haul as well. But thankfully they stay fairly small. Yes the weather this whole year has been off. Crazy hot summer and very early cold. I still have several with leaves on them but once the pots dry a big more I'll cut them off.

I call it playing Tetris. Usually results in a few lost seed pods. It's much easier to do without leaves.

Wow you have them crammed in K. Is that your only green house? So do you put them all in there and pretty much ignore them till spring, or do you have some kind of winter routine or checks that you do?

I have two of these 10x10 King Canopy greenhouses. I leave the frames up but take down the skin from March-Nov to save on the UV exposure. The skin lasts about 4-5 years before it starts getting tattered. There are some goofy things about it but with some field mods it's great for under $200. Most of the plants fit but some of the too talls and Divine (too wide) get brought into the garage.

I set up a heater and a wireless thermometer in each and turn on the heaters when temps are expected below 30. The base station is on the back patio so I don't have to walk all the way back to the greenhouse or open it to check temps. If it is going to be really cold (teens) I have a bunch of old sheets and plankets I throw over the canopy and then cover them with a giant tarp as a wind break. I check on them about once a week to look for problems and to pick up any dropped leaves and that is pretty much it. Sometimes I will give some a drink but this year was so wet I don't expect to do that until maybe Jan or Feb.

I haven't found a permanent greenhouse which will work for me as of yet. in the future I might frame something up myself and clad it with those double polycarbonate panels so I can get the dimensions and footprint I want.
