You can install anything over anything you want, even tile over carpet ... but you will often be very unhappy with it.

What do the installation directions for THAT BRAND say? If they say it's possible and if they give clear directions, and if the tile is in excellent condition, and if you know the floor joists are string enough for the extra load .... then yes.

By the time you get the underlayment and adhesive, your floor height will be high enough that your baseboards will look strange and doors will need trimming for clearance. And the weight of the floor might exceed your joist carrying capacity.

If you want to cover up old crumbling tile ... don't do it. That doesn't fix the problem and the floor will continue to deteriorate. then you have two floors to demolish instead of one.

Many wood floor warranties will not cover such an installation. Good quality installers will also advise against it.

This depends upon the floor manufacturer's instructions and the condition of the tile floor. There is no better way to waste money and to increase risk than to ruin historic fabric by unnecessary demolition. Tacking up a little shoe mold and trimming a door or two is much less expensive and far less risk. And when the wood is again out of fashion, the tile will be unscathed.

Just because you CAN does not mean you should. First it will add height to the floor which can create many other issues like doors that can’t move appliances like a DW that no longer fits . Remove the tile and do this right.

Not much to add to the advice above except that I've done this many times without an issue. Sometimes it works out perfectly and saves the mess and cost of tile removal.

What does the manufacturer's warranty say? Will they warrantee the floor even though it's been installed over tile? I get Joe's point about what you find/can happen when you start a demo.

My home would be 5300 of demo and seems a massive waste of stone tile in good shape and even that is not in style and also changes between rooms (about 5 different stone tiles used) also it would be a loss of mass that helpsmaintain the house temperature in arizona.

but to be au courant for resale and to soften the floor for my body id like to add a lvp or laminant in sucha way that it could be removed in the future. good points made by others re fitting in appliances and door cuts.
