I was given this large ponytail palm as a gift back in February. Apparently it had thrived for years in low light (a dark, northern corner of the shop, at least 5 feet from a western window).

I placed it in front of a northeastern window (which really only receives indirect light) for about three months, until I did some research and realized that it needs more sun than that. I then moved it in front of a northwestern window where it gets a few hours of direct sun. I only watered it 3-4 times prior to relocating it, and not at all since then. (I'm trying to be conservative, after having realized I gave it too little light!)

Gradually, its leaves have been developing tiny spots near the base, which then grow into holes with a brown tinge to them. I've been inspecting the plant but don't see any insect infestations. Could this be a viral or bacterial infection? A lack of humidity? Lack of water? The situation doesn't seem to be dire, but I'm worried it will only get worse.
