It needs to be in the same timber as your other furniture. I'd opt for a square or oblong shape.

The one you have in the photo is nearly bigger than your couch. So maybe slightly smaller. I would suggest leather. Something warm. Glass looks too formal.

This one is from Heal's, not sure of your budget , its fairly expensive, although you can easily search for an equivalent.

We like the first one as lets light through and looks less heavy in the room, space saving against the other furniture. Let us know what you decide.

Your window is so high up!

I'd go with exactly like honeypoppet suggested. Lightweight and glass to minimise shadowing and maximise light reflection respectively.

I really feel strongly about there needing to be something under that window like a console. It looks so strangely proportioned.

I only got it because it’s cheap - although I have budgeted for a more expensive I dont know what type so it’s hard to take the plunge.

I do take your point about the window. This is our second ‘snug’ sitting room, and was once a Victorian kitchen. It’s quirky. But I will try a console under there with some things on it to cover the gap.

Finally I chose a table I liked - then added a new sofa, and lamp! I’m also getting rid of the oak dresser and have a painted neutral one coming.
Just need final touches, but this is much more elegant imo - what do you think?

Yes, I think I'm going to get rid of the floor lamp and just have the table lamp, and another on small table to the left.

Good choice with the coffee table, it does make the room brighter than it was.

I would say to add a couple of cushions to the sofa and choose a new palette including texture and colour. It is incredible how much soft furnishing can improve a room!

End tables with taller lamps would be more practical. Generally only two people sit on a sofa, so there’s no need to have a barrier island in front of it blocking access.

The sofa and the table look good. I think the cushion on the left works well with the middle one, do you have 2?! I'd just have the patterned one either side with the coral one in front of the one on the right. I'd go for a throw on the left like the one shown in a light grey but this one may work too. just wondering if you could use the new lampshade on the new lamp you're planning on buying as it might be good to add some colour on the new sideboard?

I'm assuming your kids are young if they're using the table all the time and you might need a practical solution to avoid breakage, injury etc plus it would be a bit tiring having to remove numerous objects every day?! It's not terribly exciting but an enamel jug should be unbreakable with fresh or good quality faux flowers with just a pile of books and a candle or something. Maybe group the photos on the window sill and look to add a couple more accessories there? The only thing I would say is that the room could be softened with a round side table if in budget? If it is, how tall are the sofa arms and do you have a picture of the new sideboard?

I do have two of the darker floral cushions. I quite like ikat pattern cushions too.

I love ikat too, they're quite versatile, that lampshade is actually an ikat if you click on the pic. This wasn't the colour scheme I was going for but so many ikat designs sit on a cream background, even the ones that look white look cream when put on your sofa and just didn't look right. I wouldn't have the middle cushion on the right but when clearing the background of the back cushion it clears half the pattern! I would also just go for a solid (muted) lime cushion at the front but yet to find one! Not sure what you think of this but hopefully the coffee table would be manageable from a practical perspective and I think it ties in with your art...please ignore the book choice too, they were the easiest ones to photoshop!

I know this is hard to say now you've bought it, but I quite like the warmth of the light wood in your sideboard and it matching the side tables.

I really like the darker jade cushion you have as it pops against the sofa and adds that really nice colour in a room that while it's a lot lighter now is very neutral. Another would be great and the floral one would be great.

Also, I'd keep the floorlamp rather than table lamp. Just personal preference, no reasoning really!

However, whatever happens now it looks REALLY nice, so well done. Very bright and fresh and inviting.
