I did mine less than 2 weeks ago. 2 of them from 2 different roses but last Friday my garderner came and weed whack it. I put it in a ground at a corner . Thinking okay it looks different. I will just remind Ed. Not a chance. My family was out so never got the chance to tell Ed :(

Yes, air layering will work well, if the stem is thick enough not to break off when you remove the bark. You may need to stake it. Realize that if your current rose has rose mosaic (or any other virus disease), anything you graft to that rootstock will also get the virus. But if your plant is not infected, it should be fine.

Oh I'm so sorry Jin! The cane did look disturbingly "weedy" so I can see a gardener not knowing.

Thank you, Dr. Manners. I think the cane is thick enough. I'm going to try airlayer it then :). I don't know for sure but I don't think it is infected. I haven't seen any signs of it anyway.
