I will watch over the next couple of days. It is different as it grows - low sun when small but as soon as it gets to 2' high it gets it in the morning and then shades for an hour and then gets full sun until the end of the day. I also read it could take up to 7 years for flowers? I notice it always grows from the base each season and never on the established wood. I am not familiar so not sure if this is normal.

Yea, it will always grow from the base every year, and it only flowers on new growth. Though leaves do sprout up on old growth usually unless the branches died. I have a few of these plants myself, one as a tree and the other just a regular vine and the tree I bought was already in bloom but my vine is two years old and hasn't bloomed. The front of our house is extremely sunny, but I don't expect it to bloom probably for another few years until it's mature.
