Euphorbia “Ascot Rainbow” problem?

I planted two this past March, and one has started looking very different than the other. I’ve never had them before, and googling about it didn’t help.

Any ideas on what might be happening? They’re both in the same bed, get mid to late afternoon Texas sun (our temps have been very hot), decent drainage, clay/alkaline soil, and I’m careful not to overwater or underwater.

Is it dying, or is this something they do? I’m grateful for any advice.

Thanks, Embo, I was afraid of that. I’m glad I only got two. I might move the healthy one to my back bed ... it’s a much cooler spot and gets more shade. And I’ll hope for the best! I sure was excited to plant these, love the color and shape.

ETA: This is what I read before buying them (Texas Superstar rating), so I thought they’d be ok here:

Sorry, it croaked. Euphorbia x martinii is probably not a good choice for Texas conditions.

I was planning on going to my local nursery tomorrow — will ask them, too. I can just show them these pictures.

(Hope this post goes through, am having a lot of issues with GW. I keep getting directed to the Houzz side. Ugh.)

Problem being root rot associated with changing weather would be my expectation, from the start of the discussion. And notice that the page at your link talks about using these in Texas for color from October to April, keeps calling them "cool season" plants. In other words they are promoting them for use as winter annuals there, and not as perennial plants.

I have tried at least 6 of these. I am down to one. They just wither and die. I suspect root rot, but cannot seem to rop it. The last 3 were awesome with great blooms. Now one by one they turn reddish brown. I digging them up and throwing them away. I'm through with them. Besides, they were never as colorful as advertised. BIG disappointment. BTW i live in Eastern TN, Zone 7.

Hmmm.......they grow beautifully here and with great color, especially in the winter.
