Move the rug out toward the tv so that 1/3 of the sofa is on it. That will bring it closer to the tv but not under the sideboard, as far as I can tell from the photo. You might have to move the sofa back a little.

I would try pulling the rug out from under the sofa first (ignore whatever you read), but I think you need a larger rug.

Your rug is very thin. If you do get a different one, it would look better if it was thicker and more substantial.
