Sealing prevents nothing. It buys you some time for stains, but does nothing to prevent the chemical reaction of etching. Just pour some vinegar onto some antacids and watch that chemical reaction at work. That’s what acids do to marble. It’s calcium carbonate. Basically really hard Tums.

Bad idea. If you have to go solid one-piece, ask about honed quartz countertop material. Has anyone here every used that in a shower? Sophie?

Go with quartz look alike to be happy.

Honed quartz is a worse idea than marble. It’s a nightmare to keep clean. All of the dead skin cells and soap residue need a nice smooth surface in order the be cleaned. Large format porcelain on the walls is ideal for that. If the shower is a standard size, nothing beats a cast iron receptor from Kohler. If it’s a custom size, then a smaller porcelain on the floor with one of the new non non cementitious grouts is ideal.

I have marble counters- with modern sealers we have had no problems with staining at all, etching however... Once you mention you have acidic wellwater I would do everything I could to talk you out of this. Marble in a shower is a bad idea generally (though it’s beautiful and done all the time) marble plus acidic water equals heartache.
