Help--landscaping Japanese garden

We just put in this pond and I am at a loss as to what to plant around it.
I'd love it to be private and have a Japanese/Alpine garden-inspired look, with large stones, evergreens, drought-tolerant perennials, mostly green color scheme. I have no idea how to arrange stones though and the sheer variety of evergreen shrubs blows my mind.
Zone 6b, gets part to full sun, the area behind the pond (3rd pic) is quite dry and slopes downhill so super awkward. Any ideas?

(please ignore the gravel bags!)
