What is this beetle?

I just discovered a ridiculous amount if holes in my favorite flowering tree this year. I at first thought it was termites (still not 100% sure its not) but my boyfriend says the holes look a little too big. I just noticed two of these beetles on the tree. Can anyone identify them? If they're the ones eating my tree can I kill them and still save the tree?

Cyrtophorus maybe?

Pretty sure it's a cerambycid at least. They are woodborers as larvae but I don't know if I'd blame them for that mess. Hope someone can help!

Very likely Cyrtophorus verrucosus, as Fori mentions. The other two species in the Tribe are similar, but the OP does not mention either the location or the species of the affected tree.

Unless you have been hearing birds pecking at the tree, the holes could well be caused by the adults and grubs of this wood-boring ant-mimic beetle.

Posting in the IPM or the Trees forums might get advice about saving the tree.

The holes are in a part of the tree which is already dead. So, not a problem.
