Foliage contains a lot of aromatic oils that deer don't care for. Not all hardy geraniums are deer resistant but these are.

Note: Any new plants introduced to the garden may be browsed by deer.....at least initially. Until they have tasted it and decide they don't like it :-))

Isn't it such an incredible plant?

It spreads above-ground so if it over grows where you want it, it pulls out easily. Transplants just as easy, no digging it out. Incredibly drought tolerant, full sun to full shade, blooms all May and flowers glow in sunset, send reputed to annoy mosquitoes, no rooting runners, does not reseed, and now I find it deer resistant so I can give some to my brother for his forest-side garden.

Life is good.

Needs some watering in the dry summer periods out here, where July-Aug rainfall is quite minimal.

Strangely, despite its toughness, it is the only plant in my little garden which wilts in sun and heat ( by which I mean temps approaching 70f!) but it always recovers at dusk. I have 3 forms. No idea of their names.

I have major deer issues and they never touch my geraniums.

Suzanne, gardengal, Gary. Agree completely. Such a dependable undemanding plant.. i often have 10 or so deer in my yard winter nights and they do not eat them. Nice scent, pretty flowers, and like Gary said the runners mostly on top of the ground. Fantastic for me. I never really water them, but there are some hostas a little uphill and geraniums might get some runoff water when hostas get watered now and again.

It’s November, and we’ve already had a couple frosts. The geraniums are still going strong, and they will eventually have really pretty fall color - reds and yellows that will last until Thanksgiving.. They suffered this summer in the drought and heat that were rare for PA, but they have bounced back and shown what great little plants they are.
