Rita, Sorry about your problems with the deer, that is one problem my small garden doesn't have. At least you have the native landscape around you, so it is not all bare and I know with all the rains that we are having everything is growing wild.

When I lived In Mass around a forest, we used to get them all the time and they did feast on the flowers in the area...

Oh Rita, I feel so badly for you! Ugh! So sorry! I have deer eating my agapanthus, but so far, that is all (and there are pentas right next to the agapanthus).

I saw this video just the other day... it sounds like work, but could be worth it?

I'm sorry about your flowers! I know how hard to work to grow them. So far, all I've had is my thieving mockingbird, who found my one strawberry plant today and looked at it like he was angry there were no ripe berries. Slugs are not attacking anything but the salvia in my butterfly garden. I'm sure they'll be after the small brug shoots soon. I didn't bother to put down bait, because with all this rain, it would just be wasted. I'm glad I'm not in a deer-prone area, but we do have a possum and raccoon that like to hang out, mostly in my neighbor's yard.

Soon the yard will be full of tiny frogs eating all the nasty bugs but the frogs will not deter a deer. I don't get deer but i might grow deer stuff if they would come...i think deer watching would be way cooler than bird watching...but then i would get attached and then some numbskull would shoot the deer and then i would be very sad so maybe it is just as well i only have frogs.

No deer issues here but I'm growing supersized snails and slugs. I found a snail in one of my tomato containers that was 2 1/4" long! And like DG there was no point in putting down slug bait…until now. We have no rain in the forecast for at least 3 days.

Bea, do you eat or bake with eggs? Next time you have some eggs save the shells and cumble them up and sprinkle them around your garden bed and planters. Slugs and snails will not crawl over them as they are sharp. The rain won't hurt the egg shells.

I'm going to buy a bag of rough, small gravel to put along the edge of my sidewalk by my butterfly garden. That's where the slugs are coming from. I'm glad they don't like milkweed, but they wreak havoc with my salvia, and I want to put more salvia in that bed.
