Trying to ID this tree from our new house - unfortunately this is the best picture I have that shows what I'm talking about. I thought it could be a mountain laurel, since it does have some pods that look like that and I've seen red seeds around it. But then it also has those big fan-shaped pods (or something else?) dangling off it. I don't think those are dead flowers, first because we have a mountain laurel at our current complex that never looked like that, but also because they were in listing pictures from February and this picture is from May and nothing seems to have changed. We started looking at the house in April, when the laurel at our current place was at the end of blooming, and never saw flowers on this one.

I can't find anything online that looks quite like this. Is it a mountain laurel with something growing on it? Or a sick mountain laurel? Or some other species entirely? Any thoughts would be appreciated!
