Yes, extend the tile. That would make the most sense. Not sure why it was done the way it was to begin with. (I'm assuming opposite that closet door is just a wall/corner.)

As a designer my first choice would be to eliminate the tile altogether for a seamless look and use all wood. You can use a beautiful area rug for the entry for traffic. Hardwood floors are durable and stand up to dirt and easier to maintain than tile with grout. Best wishes!

ck_squared we purchased the home from a builder 15 years ago. So there are many things that didn't make sense :) Yes, opposite the door is a corner, part wall, and entry to our living room.

London Staging and Design, LLC I would love to eliminate the tile altogether but we live in a four seasons climate which brings heavy snow in the winter and lots of slush and rain in the spring. We already keep a rug over the tile today and it can get quite messy. I've come to terms with the fact that tile is necessary.

I think it would look better if you extend it as you have marked it.

Extend for sure! I also live in a four season climate and these foyers that don't extend the tile through to the "wet/muddy/snowy areas" make little sense to me functionally, or aesthetically.

I disagree with @London Staging about having hardwood at front door in that type of climate. We have hardwood at front (and rear) door in our current house and it is a pain with the water from melting snow, sand/salt grit from the winter roads, etc.

Our new house will have tile extended through front foyer and into mudroom (garage entrance) - the builder plan also only had it in the front foyer area and not through to mudroom/garage entrance.

your guests will feel better having tile. you'll feel better having tile. your kids will feel better about having tile cuz they won't get chewed out.
