Maybe any kind of bush that is native or grows easily there? Plant it 1-2 feet in front, then it will grow to cover the box. Guessing you live somewhere in CA?
How about a sago palm, 3 lavender, rosemary or rose bushes or some other "local" shrub?
You can go to a reputable nursery & ask them what shrub is easiest to grow there.

I think you should get romneya - it's a 3-6' bush that blooms with white poppy flowers that look like fried eggs with a yellow center. You should cut down that shrub by the garage ANC pug something vining or less heavy, maybe camellia since it looks like a shade spot. Get rid of that 2 layer shrub too on the front door pathway and maybe a hydrangea there if it gets good water. I'm no designer but that's my humble opinion :)
