The 2 stems are Allium - possibly Allium vineale.

I 'think' that is nutsedge, a grass-like weed that is glossy and easy to pull up. It pops up in my beds all the time.

Thanks, Brian. It definitely came out pretty easy but the roots or stem don't look the same. I also don't see any flowers but I'll be on the look out for the yellow ones.

It's definitely a sedge (Carex species) but not nutsedge (Cyperus). Depending on where you are located, some sedges are natives and can spread aggressively. And that makes them less an ornamental grass and more of a weed :-) Most sedges that are grown or sold as ornamental grasses are clump formers, not spreaders, and with some defining attribute that makes them a valuable garden addition. I don't see any of that with you photo.

I'd suggest taking good samples - entire plant(s) with roots attached - into your local extension service office for an accurate identification.
