Vines don’t attract spiders any more than the windows of your house attract them. What attracts spiders is bugs for food and convenient sites to make webs. Bugs are attracted by food such as some plants or people and other mammals and many are attracted by light from our homes at night. In all honesty, I have a lot more spiders and bugs around my windows than are on my plants.

So your question is so broad as to difficult to answer. For shade you can plant a vine to grow up a trellis or you could set up a shade sail if it isn’t too windy or get an awning or you could use lattice fastened to a framework to create dappled shade.

What vine you would choose might depend on what kind of growing circumstances you have (sun or shade or some combo, irrigation or not, soil type and pH) and what if any particular insects you don’t want to encounter. Do you want flowers or just foliage? Would you want to see bugs like butterflies, or hummingbirds, or no visitors? One plant that I would expect to grow in your area that is totoally trouble free here is mandevilla. I have to bring it inside for the winter, but with a long growing season like yours, I would expect it could get fairly large each season. I don’t know if it is totally winter hardy in your area.

Here the native honeysuckle, Lonicera sempervirens aka trumpet honeysuckle aka coral honeysuckle is great and my ‘Major Wheeler’ cultivar of L. sempervirens blooms all summer. I know it is tolerant of the conditions in NM, so it should grow well for you. There are some other honeysuckle species and hybrids that are great plants as well, but avoid Japanese honeysuckle which can be invasive in many parts of the country, spread by birds that eat the berries and then deposit the seeds when they fly elsewhere.
