Thanks Arthur. I'm not familiar with Brassias but the pbulbs on the Brassia look flatish to me like oncs which I grow (oncs that is). The bulbs on my mystery orchids are not flat at all. They are perfectly round. Arthur, still think Oncidium sub tribe?

I forgot to mention that someone in another forum mentioned possibly being Encyclias. Not having any Encyclias in my collection and never having seen one I can't concur. If we cannot figure it out, maybe I'll take them to my next Orchid Society meeting. Lots of experts there.

Could be? Yes, Encyclia is a possibility, perhaps Zygopetalum? Parallel evolution leads to similar pseudobulb shapes in different Orchid Genera.

Thanks for your help Atthur. I may have to wait for flowers to be sure but if my Society members can figure it out I'll let you know. It is hard to tell sometimes from a photo.

I'm guessing Encyclia.

I have a Encyclia Randii which looks very much like your photo except mine had brown sheaths where the new leaves emerge. Possible someone removed the sheaths.

In any case, that would be my guess.

encyclia. I grow mine in red lava rock also. They like good drainage and potted high on the medium like yours. The plastic pot reduces the flow of drainage. I use clay pots. I water every day. You should water something less. How much less I am not sure. Maybe every other day...I like the new growth, a good sign...

Harvey, When I repotted them I took my cue from the fat pbulbs as to media. All my orchids are in my shade/green house so high humidity. I only water these guys maybe every 3-4 days.

I'd rather grow my plants in as natural way as possible so I'm thinking about mounting them on some cedar pieces I have. That way there's not much chance of overwatering, although I consider myself an underwaterer. I'm also considering planting them in those tree fern pots. I have my Brass nodosa and my D. lundleyi in those and really like the results.

I'm retired so daily watering is easy.

cedar needs to be old. Fresh cut cedar plants don't like it.
