I have been successful with propagating rose cutting 3-4 times in the past two years and have a pretty good sense of what I'm doing. I do have a question though about the process. I am currently working on a cutting I bought at a gas station for mother's day, it is one of those pretty red roses. I have kept it in ideal conditions for a month now and at the base of the cutting is the start of the rooting process. It looks like white foam forming at the base of the rose, in my experience this is a good sign and roots should follow soon. My question is what is this white foam looking stuff? is it essentially a root base forming? I move the cutting inside and put it in lightly packed soil with plenty of perlite with a plastic bag covering the whole pot to act like a green house, I poured water in the water catcher underneath the pot to evaporate and create humidity. Was it risky to move the cutting before it formed a real root or will I be good as long as it gets light and warmth?
