Blank space in kitchen

Hi all! I am working on a very important project for a very important client and for some reason I’m drawing a blank on a solution. In the picture behind the five plastic storage bins there is a blank wall and it’s kind of an eyesore for myself but more importantly for my client. As you can see the counter stops short of the end of the wall, I can’t add a tall wall cabinet which is what I would normally do because there is a power outlet and a light switch in the middle of the wall height wise. Please help!

Seems odd that the cabinets weren't just extended to give more of a landing on that side. What's the distance between the wall and the peninsula?

Can you do some shallow floating shelves? Or even just a really great piece of art. If you remove the bins do you even need something there? Not every wall needs to be filled. Especially as it looks like this is a walkway.

How about a mobile island or bar? Does the kitchen lack any working space or storage?

The distance between the wall And the island is 3 feet and if you inches. I forgot to add that everything in those plastic bins is going to be taken out and organized into the kitchen. This is a move-in project so all of those bins will be emptied and moved to the garage.

I agree with either putting a piece of art or a clock. Since it's a walkway, I wouldn't put a cabinet or other piece of furniture there.

It would be hard to add art there Because there is a light switch and outlet in the middle of the wall. I do like the idea of shelves…

How about a little hinged bench seat with storage below? It'd be somewhere to plonk the shopping bags, a kid, a coat, a cat, etc ...

PS I'm amused by your "very important" description of client and project; do designers ever call their clients and projects "not so important," or "fairly unimportant" ? :)

Move the outlet & switch to the end gable of a tall cabinet, like is done with islands.

Pretty small thing to pay an electrician considering the overall cost of cabinets.

Looks like there is a HVAC vent that needs to be considered as well.

I'm with Kaillean, move the outlet, keep the switch. It looks to me like a refrigerator was supposed to go there, once. The outlet behind my fridge is at the same height.

Or how about some open storage like you can see in this image? Not everyone cooks enough to want pots and pans so visually accessible, however, but it is pretty and a great use of space!

Haha! All of my clients are very important. But by “very important” I was referring to a detail that I can’t share with the public.

    A bar?

It doesn't look as if that walkway is wide enough to add any sort of cabinet son that wall anyway.

I'd remove all the cabinets and counter/backsplash to the left of the wall oven. They are what is making it look as if that wall is missing something. With those gone, just hang art. The wall oven by itself will look like a natural and complete stop.

It would help if you posted more pictures from more angles. And a wider shot. I'm guessing on half this advice.

How about a couple of ottomans side by side with art above? Looks like the space could be warmed with some fabric or leather. Also, makes a good drop area if needed.

Switches and outlets can easily be moved.

If you have not had switches and outlets moved now is the time to add that to your repertoire this is an easy thing to have done and always if it helps good design BTW every client should be very important so that comment is not important.

That is odd that the cabinetry didn't extend further, but as it is now I wouldn't do anything there. It will only draw more attention to it. There is not enough room to add anything functional there, and art will just make your eye go there which is not what you want. The only other thing I would consider is if that drywall wall can be shortened to open it up a little more and not have so much blank space there.

A chalkboard painted on the wall and trimmed out.

I would just a picture and maybe an extra chair that can be pulled up when needed and also used to plunk down a bag or purse. Turn the chair so it is diagonal.

The light switch and outlet can be easily moved by a handyman or homeowner. Easy. I've done it in my house. Don't let those 2 things block you.

Move the outlet and possibly the light switch. Then you can do art, an organization center on the wall, floating shelves...tons of possibilities.

Move the outlet and switch. extend the cabinet and counter or install a tall cabinet.
