Well, my young meyer lemon accquired from Logee's last fall has been housed in a 4 inch square since arriving in a 2 1/2 inch. Having put on a good spurt of growth in April/May, I decided yesterday to graduate it to a 6 inch trade pot.

Inspecting the root system, I think my timing was good, the roots hadn't started encircling at the bottom yet, but were not far from reaching the bottom of the pot. This will also insulate it from needing quite as much water (pot was drying out daily in our heat and slight winds).

I mixed a peat based potting soil about 40% with 50% turface and 10% perlite, thinking that it's root system will be robust enough by fall that I no longer need (or want) the gritty mix that I had it potted in for the winter. And of course, drying outside is not a problem...in southern heat.

I hope next year that I'll feel safe to let it mature one or two lemons. We shall see.
