Hi, I have a beni shigitatsu Sawa that's in the 5 1 1 mix in a 15 gallon container. I'm new to the 5 1 1 mix. It's been in the low 80's for the past week. The tree gets morning sun and afternoon shade. I watered the tree a few days ago. For the past few days some leaves began curling. I noticed today that the potting mix feels a bit dry. Do you think in this heat I have to water the tree every day? Would that be too much? I'm afraid of over watering.

When did you repot it to the new mix and did you bare-root it when repotting? You may have to water it more often and water it really well. Fresh mix, especially if it is made with raw bark (not aged) does not hold on to water well in the beginning. At this stage it is lot more free draining and I would not worry so much about over watering when the weather warms up.

And be sure to soak well when you water. You should have water running out the drain holes.
