recessed can lighting

We are ready to install new can lights in our new kitchen. I'm only asking advice for that. I understand that this drawing is not perfect, and the dimensions are not the standard. But in real life, the dimensions are good. This drawing is just for an overall big picture view.

I'm wondering how many lights I should have. I want one can light over the sink. Do I need 2 or 3 lights in the middle of each "aisle"? From the back wall to the front of the sink cabinet is 14 feet. So that would be a total of 5 or 7 lights.

Right now we want nothing above the island, maybe in the future we will add a hang down light over the island, but not right now.

Thanks,

Sorry the digital lay out I posted is actually 2 feet longer than it actually is.

We shortened the kitchen to have more space in the living area.

Rough drawing but you get the idea. I prefer to over lamp and then use dimmers so I get even lighting. I prefer 4” cans with 2700kelvin led bulbs installed at the edge of the counters so your body isn’t creating shadows. The sink can will be centered over the sink, the cans over tall cabinets (pantry, fridge) get installed 12-15” off the face.

I’m surprised the ceiling is being skimmed, I’m going to assume you have attic access.

Thanks Hallett, are you surprised because cans should have gone in first? Our contractor wanted to do lights first but we couldn't make a decision so he said he would just use our attic access to install them.

Maybe I'm wrong, but in this drawing, it looks like your highlighting or spotlighting certain things, which we dive want to do. Am I wrong about that?

Thanks for your time!

well basically I would have 4 switches, over the peninsula over the island and perimeter, and under cab.
