backsplash dilemma

So I was asking for kitchen paint help and in sharing my kitchen some seemed to dislike my backsplash / counter combo ughhhh
The cupboards were just professionally painted simply white Benjamin Moore and my counter will not be changing right now maybe down the road I can get quartz, granite etc but not in budget now, BUT if I changed my backsplash what would you change it too, I’m not a huge fan of subway white with white cupboards though but if u think that’s best let me know, counter is laminate wilsonart winter carnival .. the walls are being painted a lighter shade (beige family) to brighten space and I purchased a new table as this one is too matchy with floor and yes I know there is clutter on my counter I have like zero space to put anything ! Thanks so much !!!

    Hi Becky

I read your other thread and thought you did great dealing with the negative comments. Keep to what works for you - what you like, and your budget. You’re going through a difficult time, so be gentle with yourself. Your kitchen really is pretty the way it is, although I can see the reasoning for painting it a little lighter and brighter. You just put in the backsplash and you like it, so keep it.

Hang in there, you’re doing great!

I love your backsplash. I prefer plainer countertops, but that’s just my preference. Your kitchen is warm and inviting. Ignore people who talk just to talk. Looks bad for them, not you.

Clutter? Seriously it’s not clutter if it’s neat and in it’s right place, like your things are. You cabinets are a beautiful shade of white.

Thanks so much Avignon been a hard year lost my mom fairly suddenly and too young 6 months ago so I need to be surrounded by things that make me happy just went through a few other posts and saw many other posters were blasted for things they asked for no input on I get it’s a decor site but there’s a nice way to put things and I try to keep to question at hand... appreciate your message :)

The kitchen is fine as it is now with the newly painted cabinets. Just because it is not what is being used or overused now does not mean that it does not go or complement. If you are on a budget then take your time. When you have the budget, do the counter first so you can get rid of the 4" backsplash attached to the laminate counter and then do your tile backsplash. Enjoy what you have now as it looks great so far and keep it moving!

Zalco yes I was told it was cluttered on my other post because I have small appliances utensil jar etc on the counter...

I really like your backsplash. As far as what is out in the open, do what tou need to do to use smaller items. If you go to sell, then put everything away like no human lives there

I think you guys are right wait till I can afford the counter AND the backsplash I want I would choose a lighter quartz or granite if u look at my wish list you’ll see my tastes, I mean I know cabinet detail is a bit dated too but not in budget so having them professionally painted was my affordable option and even that was $3000 (they were taken away and brought back a week later ) thanks for the input !!!

Ignore the comments. Many here would have everyone use white subway tile and have all kitchens look the same, White cabinets, fake marble quartz and white subway. if it doesn't fit the mold they don't like it. I think its plain but many love it. I like your kitchen as is.

Hi Becky, I agree it's fine for now. I also agree with Filipe...as the budget allows, do the counter without the 4" splash and add a tile backsplash. If you like some pattern, maybe use it in either the counters or splash...not both. It's nice to have just one of them pull the focus. Love the Simply White for the cabinets. It's one of my favorite whites.

I'm so sorry about your mom. I know how it feels. Things will get better...promise.

Oh, if you happen to find one of those money trees will you let me know? ;-)

Here’s my last kitchen I updated in old house, yes for sure when budget allows I’ll be getting rid of the 4” counter lip and getting something more modern :)

Nicely done! BTW, I forgot to mention how nice your floor looks in your current kitchen.

Thanks chloebud I like it but 3 kids and 3 dogs darker hickory wasn’t good choice as I have to clean daily !! just bought this for bedroom kicking myself in butt I didn’t do something like this shade on main floor as well !!! Lol

They're both really nice. I know what you mean about cleaning dark floors. Our daughter has them...gorgeous but they also have a dog with white fur that sheds like I've never seen before. They bought a Roomba that's been a huge help.

Antiqued glass of some sort in your galley kitchen? Perfect kitchen for a runner. Best of luck looks nice.

It is difficult not to imagine a simple yet nice subway tile style backsplash there. It will also contrast nicely with your existing counter top.

For reference, below is subway tile used over the gas range top in one of our designers' own kitchen.

Becky, your kitchen is lovely. I would not be in any hurry to change anything at all. As for losing your mother suddenly and too soon, the same thing happened to me about two and a half years ago. I know the pain you are feeling. I pray for you to heal and come to peace knowing your mother would want that for you (I know how hard it is to even accept peace with this- it's as though feeling the pain becomes a way to keep your mother close.)

Rather than changing the backsplash, I would change the laminate to some solid surface material...in a solid color.

I think I'd leave things as they are for a while. Not much of the backsplash shows anyway. If it really bothers you - look for a something to put above the sink. I have a painted metal tray above mine. Something you didn't ask about, but did share, is your new table. I really like it, but don't think the height would be good in your space. Take your time and enjoy your new home. Don't worry about trying to make it magazine perfect.

Becky, I was on your other thread (I painted your room) and I like your backsplash. So there.

I’m sorry to hear about your Mom, Becky. My Mom died about 6 months ago too. It wasn’t a surprise but, oh it hurts. I’m sure your 3 kids and 3 pups are a comfort.

Groveraxle - You are a Prince(ss). I love your work and kind spirit.
