I dug up several when I was first developing this garden to put them where I thought they would be seen better. Not a good strategy, they all died. But I spotted one growing this week where it likes and I’ll leave it there.

Your lady slippers are beautiful Ann. It is PEI's flower as well and they can be found growing in lots of wooded areas. I was tempted this year to purchase one at a local nursery but it was very expensive. Maybe next year.

These are not mine, but I know where to find them.

When I was young, my dad used to take me backpacking in the mountains. For the most part, I just hated it. We walked for miles and miles. I was little, that pack was heavy and I spent a lot of time practically jogging just to try to keep up with his long legs. But now I look back on that time more fondly. My dad taught me a lot about animals, plants, trees, birds. And now I am reminded that way far into the mountain woods where it's dark, dank and wet there were lady slippers or fairy slippers. He would always point them out to me. The ones here are smaller but just as delicate and pretty. They are rare. In fact, I think they are on the endangered plant list here. I haven't seen one in many, many years. But now I remember them and it brings back all these other memories.
