Dinning room lighting

I'm having difficulty finding just the right dinning room light that will coordinate with a rubbed bronze chandelier and other rubbed bronze lighting throughout the house. We are doing a facelift reno which includes removing a wall and opening the kitchen to the living area. Instead of hanging pendants we are opting for pot lights over the bar area. The dinning area is smallish, narrow actually and when we have a party we often move the table up against the wall to make standing room and use the table as a food buffet. In the past, the lighting fixture has been a problem and many have then hit their head on it.

I'm wondering from a design perspective..can I put a series of pot lights in the ceiling above my dining room table? I am thinking it would go well with the open clean look and not obscure the view to the back yard double door with a beautiful garden behind as well solve the problem of a) people hitting their head, b) my not being able to find just the right fixture..

but will it look strange?
