I took it out of its pot and soil was still wet most of the way through. The roots were black and soft at the bottom. I put it into new soil to see if i can help it out. I should have taken some photos when i pulled it out. It didnt look great.

I repotted my Bamboo palm the same day and its roots where much healthier and drier then the parlour palm.

I am not sure if the soil i used is fast draining or not it doesnt seem to tell me when i am looking for one :(

Lots of people have their own "recipies" for fast draining potting soil. Generally they mix coarse material in with bought potting mixes. If you use sand make sure it's large grained with sharp/broken edges to the grains. Never use fine sand. Sometimes vermiculite or perlite is added to the soil. All these let the water through fast so you need to water more often, but the soil is healthier and the plants survive better.

I never use wetting agents but most of my plants are in the ground. The plants in pots are "in transit", on their way to going into the ground (when I get around to it).

Bamboo Palm, Chamaedorea seifrizii, is closely related to Parlour Palm, Chamaedorea elegens. But the Bamboo Palm is a clumping plant and produces new stems. It seems to be the easier one to grow, but that's in my outdoor conditions.

Would making that up be ok for this plant? I cant seem to find a palm specific one.

Should be okay but will dry out fairly fast. You could add a bit of organic matter. The palm will need more moisture than succulents so more frequent watering so that the roots don't actually dry out.
